The Geo-Facilities Planning and Information Research Center (GeoPlan) was established in 1984 by Dr. John Alexander in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Florida's College of Design, Construction and Planning. The Center was developed as a response to the need for a teaching and research environment in Geographic Information Systems, or GIS.
